Introducing A Digital Edition of The Prevention Researcher
~ By Todd
Last year our associate editor explored the topic “Journals: Digital or Print?” based on a survey we conducted in May 2010. While the survey data showed a clear preference (74%) for the print medium, 72% of journal subscribers said they also accessed the digital editions of publications online.
Although our team believes that print is here to stay for the foreseeable future, we decided it was time to explore digital publishing to add value for current subscribers to The Prevention Researcher as well as extend the readership of the journal to a worldwide audience.
Our first digital edition features “Social Media & Youth,” published in print as the December 2010 Resource Issue. For a full screen view, click on the cover image below to begin reading articles about the benefits of social media for young people, a discussion of the risks, and ways to empower adults to create positive online experiences for youth.
The digital edition can be read in various formats and includes hyperlinks to an editorial index of articles published over the past eight years, to our previously published issues, and to products offered by our advertisers.
Over the next few months, we’ll evaluate the response from youth-serving professionals who read the digital edition. A decision about digital publishing of future issues of The Prevention Researcher in combination with our ongoing print edition will be made later this year.

Thanks for your comment, Tina. To enlarge the pages, click on the cover image for a full screen view. The control bar at the top of the full page view allows further enlargement, moving from page-to-page, and changing to different page views. Hope my brief instructions are helpful!

How can I save the document to my computer, as with previous editions?

Mel-
There is no way to save the digital issue. This our very first digital issue, previously we have only provided digital articles from within our issues.

Is there any way to print the issue or to get a hard copy?

Stephania-
If you view the issue from our web site (http://www.tpronline.org/digital-issue.cfm) there is an option to print individual pages (I’m not sure why it is different from the blog). You can also purchase the whole issue from us on our web site (http://www.tpronline.org/issue.cfm/Social_Media_Youth).

I like the format, but cannot see the print to read the articles. I enlarged to full page, and also tried the tool bar at the top. Suggestions?

Georgia,
Thanks for your comment! To print individual pages, there is a button in the tool bar at the top. It’s the second button from the right. When you click on it, you are given the option of which pages you want to print (left, right, or both sides). I hope this answers your question!
